Hi, I’m trying to contact Paul Balan. I tried using the contact link on his website but my email bounced. Do you have a way to pass the message below to him?
Thanks for your help,
Mike Maupin
Hi Paul,
I’m hoping you will be able to help me. My name is Mike Maupin. In 1906 my father was born in Manila. His parents were Charles Socrates Maupin and Virginia Consuelo Balan / Maupin. Charles was in the US Army and met and married Virginia while stationed in the Philippines. They moved to the US around 1909 / 10 and never returned to the Philippines. I’m working on a family history project and although I have quite a bit of information on the Maupin side of my family, I know virtually nothing about my heritage from my Grandmother’s family.
I’ve heard that Virginia was born in the Philippine island of Mindanao. Her father may have been a civil servant and mother may have died at childbirth. The story goes that her father remarried, and Virginia had a half-sister. However, I do not know the accuracy of any of this. I do know she was a Catholic.
Do you know if you are related to Virginia? Any help you can give me in recovering this lost family history would really be appreciated. I have to say that the photo of you on your web site looks similar to some of my cousins. I have a photo that I believe is of my Grandmother as a child with (possibly) her sister. I can email it to you if you’d like. I also have a wedding photo of Virginia and Charles.
Thanks for you time,
Mike
