Filipino American Talent Shine in “Pippin”

“East West Players’ current production of Stephen Schwartz’s “Pippin” in LA, Filipino-American actors Cesar Cipriano and Ryyn Chua, and musicians Marc Macalintal (also on keyboards in the live band) and Vince Reyes (guitar) shine.” That was from Inquirer mobile news.

Here’s an excerpt from Steven Stanley of stagescenela.com about the music:

“Musical accompaniment is provided by LinoType, conductor/musical director Macalintal on keyboards, and Vince Reyes on drums. The sounds they make are so huge, and often fully orchestral, that I have no idea how they made them, but the results are phenomenal.”

Also noted was Cesar Cipriano:

“…..plays Pippin’s self involved half-brother Lewis. Possessing a torso of sculpted perfection, Cipriano is not just a pretty bod, but a talented singer and dancer, sizzling to Jason Tyler Chong’s sexy street dance moves.”

Yeah, I can see that! Especially the “sculpted perfection!” Hahaha! But seriously, the actors were great. If you’re looking for performers with “triple threat,” Ryyn & Cesar fits the bill.

I was particularly captivated with that breathtaking moment where Ryyn and Blythe perform only in silhouette projection behind lovers Pippin and Catherine.

The production design was just wonderfully creative by combining the elements of modern, urban, groove, hip-hop feel, anime & Japanese art which was integrated seamlessly.

I loved the show.
